CHoNKY
Chonky is a boost / drive preamp pedal kit, at the heart of it is a silicon transistor and has many tone shaping possibilities. There are two controls externally, and one internally. The external are a pot for Level and a two position toggle for Treble and Full mode. The internal control takes the resistor that sets the overdrive level to a trimmer, so you really can dial in the sound in your head from a clean glass like treble boost to all out eye watering filth. The adventurous amongst us might even want to replace the trimmer with a pot. Its very useful.
The board is spaced for PCB mounted toggles and pots. It fits in one of our JP1590B cases. The layout is very neat, and spaced well. I've included my 'diy friendly' approach with larger pads but space was tight so the pad spacing is too. This one comes with top jacks and power as standard.
This kit is beginner level. It has a small parts count and good pad spacing. Theres nothing specialist going and the results are very rewarding. Despite its simplicity this is a very very very good circuit.
You also have the choice of a JP Pro level kit. This includes the full kit and a drilled pre painted enclosure, with a UV printed design. Theres a photo of the painted case on the product images. Stock levels of these enclosures are strictly controlled and not available in isolation. These enclosures really take your DIY build and turn it into something a bit special.
The other two levels of kit come with a bare metal enclosure.
This kit compares to the EQD Bows.
